Breaking news: Owls midfielder leaves Hillsborough

Gary Megson continued his Sheffield Wednesday clear-out last night as midfielder Darren Potter left Hillsborough.

A statement from the Owls said Potter had left by mutual consent.

The 26-year-old originally joined the Owls on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2009 before making his switch to Hillsborough permanent in July of the same year.

Potter made 103 appearances for Wednesday, scoring nine goals, and a club statement tonight read “the club would like to thank Darren for his services and wish him well for the future”.

Defender Tommy Spurr is understood to be close to a £200,000 move to Doncaster Rovers as Megson looks to overhaul his squad.
