Bury v Sheffield Wednesday: Megson wants Owls to get in opening strike

Gary Megson has called on his players to seize the initiative at Gigg Lane tonight and take the game to hosts Bury.

Wednesday lost for the first time this season at Bournemouth last Saturday, and Megson – whose side face a third game in six days tonight – believes conceding first was the root cause.

“We have to take a lot more care with the ball, there has to be more support on the ball, we have to finish the chances and score the first goal,” he said. “But that’s not a result of the Bournemouth game; that stands all the time. I think that last year whenever we scored first we only lost once.”

Chris Lines is expected to feature but fellow recruit Chris O’Grady has still not fully recovered from a bruised heel.

Megson has distanced himself from reports linking the club to a loan move for Leicester City striker Steve Howard.
