Hillsborough exit for Taylor as Jones eyes loan market deals

The 33-year-old has struggled to earn a regular start at Hillsborough since joining the club 12 months ago from Watford.

The former Birmingham City centre-half made just 13 appearances last season for the Owls, who failed to win any of the matches in which he featured.

He is joining Brentford on an initial month’s loan having not played for Wednesday this season, despite the club still hunting their first win of the Championship campaign.

Bees boss Uwe Rosler said: “Martin has a bunch of experience. He is a big unit. It is worthwhile for us to get someone with Martin’s experience on loan and both parties can see where we are after that has finished.”

With club captain Anthony Gardner out until 2014 with an Achilles injury, the Owls have Kamil Zayatte and Miguel Llera as their defensive pairing but Jones is expected to bring in several loan signings this month. Others could be shipped out of Hillsborough to balance the books.

Owls teenager Ayo Obileye, 19, featured for Scunthorpe United’s reserves this week and could be another Wednesday player set for a loan spell away from the Steel City.

The Owls host fellow Championship strugglers Yeovil on Saturday and three consecutive draws before the international break – against Leeds United, Millwall and Middlesbrough – have raised confidence levels at S6.

“We’re unbeaten in three games, we’re eager to get that first win, morale is high and I’m sure if you ask the boys, they’d all have been happy to have the Yeovil game last weekend,” said midfielder Giles Coke.

“While we haven’t won as yet, we are unbeaten in three after difficult games away from home against Leeds and Middlesbrough and we want to get back out there and build on those positives.

“Yeovil did unbelievably well to get promoted last season and they have got some good players so it won’t be an easy game.”

Accrington have signed Rotherham United striker Kayode Odejayi on a three-month loan deal.
