Ipswich will ask very different questions of us, says Carvalhal

Two successive home wins – a 2-0 Championship success against Bristol City swiftly followed by a 4-1 beating of Mansfield Town in the League Cup – have created plenty of positive vibes around Hillsborough.

Carvalhal has started 21 different players in those two games, meaning he travels to Ipswich Town tomorrow with more questions than answers.

But it is a healthy position from which to select his squad for Portman Road, with the likes of Lucas Joao and Modou Sougou impressing with goals on their full debuts against Mansfield.

Midfield duo Kieran Lee and Jose Semedo also chipped in with goals, but Carvalhal recognises Ipswich will provide a different test this weekend.

“I will choose the 18 squad players that in my opinion will be the best to try and win the match,” said the Portuguese head coach.

“Our principles will remain the same. Playing against Bristol City at home will be very different from playing against Ipswich away, but we need to keep our identity and principles that we’ve had since day one.

“We must provide the right answers to the questions that Ipswich ask and it will be very different from Bristol.”

Winger options for the Owls look very healthy, Marco Matias and Ross Wallace both catching the eye against Bristol City.

But Senegal wideman Modou Sougou – signed from Marseille earlier this month – dazzled against Mansfield, although the 30-year-old may have to settle for a place on the bench tomorrow.

Carvalhal added: “We see what the players do in the previous matches, what they do in training and the opponent that we will play, looking at their strong points and weak points. After that, we will select our 11.”
