Leicester give Sheffield Wednesday green light for Howard

Sven-Goran Eriksson has confirmed that Sheffield Wednesday target Steve Howard could be loaned out.

The Scotland B international, who has scored 28 goals in 126 appearances for the Foxes, is not a part of the Swedish manager’s plans for the new season.

“There is a possibility Steve could go out on loan and there are talks between us and the club, the agent and the player,” said Eriksson.

“He is match fit and he did a very good pre-season, but he wants to play.”

Howard has also been linked to former club Derby County, but their local rivalry with Leicester and position in the same league may scupper a deal.

Wednesday have been suffering from a shortage of fit strikers, although this week’s signings of Rochdale’s Chris O’Grady and Nigerian youth international Danny Uchechi have begun to alleviate the crisis.
