Match Centre: Dagenham and Redbridge 1 Sheffield Wednesday 1 - Megson blasts ref

Sheffield Wednesday were left seething after a controversial penalty denied them all three points in the relegation six-pointer at Dagenham.

Wednesday had led since the 17th minute when in the 80th minute, Darren Potter was adjudged to have handled Darren Currie’s cross in the area.

Danny Green stepped up to beat young goalkeeper Rob O’Donnell from the penalty spot to salvage a point for the Daggers and keep Gary Megson’s side looking over their shoulders in League One.

Wednesday had taken the lead when Gary Teale glanced Michael Morrison’s long throw past Tony Roberts.

It was all Dagenham for much of the game but Potter nearly made amends for conceding the penalty when he forced Roberts into a fine, late save.

Wednesday are four points clear of the bottom four.

Megson said: “What annoyed me and what really incensed me is that I said to the referee as far as I’m aware and unless they’ve changed the rules while I’ve been not working, managers aren’t allowed to talk to referees at half-time, least of all put their arms around them.

“The referee in the second half was one-eyed at best, I thought it was awful.”
