Match Centre: Hartlepool United 0 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Sheffield Wednesday have earned only their second away win of the season to move above city rivals United and into the play-off places in League One.

Wednesday, who have won the last five encounters between the two, took the lead in the first half and hung on to claim the victory against the previously strong Hartlepool.

The goal came from Ben Marshall’s long throw, with defender Reda Johnson popping up to head the Owls to the points on 33 minutes.

Wednesday manager Gary Megson said: “That’s the first game Hartlepool have lost all season and we also made it two away wins on the spin for us.

“It’s a great result and we go back to Hillsborough in good heart.”
