Owls now equipped to achieve Premier League aim

The Owls have appointed former Hull City chairman Adam Pearson and Glenn Roeder, former Newcastle United manager, to a three-man football committee alongside head coach Stuart Gray.

Pearson and Roeder, both named as advisors to Chansiri, will work closely with Gray on this summer’s recruitment as part of a new set-up that the Thai businessman believes can end Wednesday’s long absence from the top flight.

Speaking at a media briefing today, Chansiri said: “It is my view that everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. With these two men, we can use both their strengths to help Sheffield Wednesday.

“Their vast experience together with that of the head coach means that we will be working together to recruit players both local and international.

“We will try our best (to reach the Premier League). We will select the best players and we will play exciting, aggressive football.

“We will be spending the necessary amount of investment on players to achieve our goal, which is to get into the Premier League by 2017.”

Asked for clarification on the future of Gray, who is yet to sit down with his two fellow committee members, Chansiri said: “The coach will be the one to select the team and also coach the team. We like the head coach very much.”

Roeder’s return to football after a couple of years scouting for Aston Villa comes ahead of a potentially vital summer for the Owls as they look to build on an encouraging season.

Asked how well he knew Gray, Roeder said: “Football people all know each other, to varying degrees.

“I know Stuart quite well and his reputation for being a good coach on the training ground. I look forward to working with him.

Same with Adam. He has an excellent reputation and he has many good contacts that will be very important.”

Pearson, meanwhile, was last involved with football in 2012 when he left Hull City in the wake of Nick Barmby’s sacking.

Linked with a possible move to join the Leeds United hierarchy before Massimo Cellino’s arrival, the former Tigers chairman said: “My task is to bring value in the transfer market. We have to make sure the chairman’s interests are served from a financial and football point of view.

I have a lot of experience of running football clubs.”

Pearson, who owns Hull FC, stressed that his new role at Hillsborough would not impact on the Super League club.
