Pearson is confident both he and Roeder will ‘dovetail’ with Wednesday’s head coach Gray

The Owls’ head coach has joined Pearson and former England coach Glenn Roeder on a new three-man football committee that chairman Dejphon Chansiri believes can deliver Premier League football by 2017.

Gray, who took charge of the first team in November 2013 and has done a fine job on a small budget, will work closely with the new arrivals.

All three men are expected to be based at the club’s training ground with the interim priority being to formulate a recruitment plan for the summer.

Pearson, who had two spells in charge of Hull City and also served as a director with Leeds United, said: “Stuart has done a very, very good job.

“I go back a long way with Stuart, both geographically and football. I have a lot of time for him and how he plays the game.

“The lack of ego and posturing, and the fact he just gets on with the job. The three of us will complement each other, dovetail together and do a very good job.”

Pearson and Roeder had yet to sit down with Gray when Chansiri’s master plan was unveiled at a media briefing on Monday morning.

A need to keep the changes under wraps was behind that, but it is understood the three men have now held an initial meeting. No details are available but Wednesday’s plans for the transfer market will, no doubt, have been at the top of the agenda along with how the new arrangement is going to work in practical terms.

“The work has started,” added Pearson. “We are up and running. I am sure the chairman wants to see some positive progress 'very quickly.

“The next few weeks are crucial and we have to hit the ground running. Everyone will be involved in compiling a list of players to bring to the club. We want some excitement and enthusiasm.”

Under the new set-up, Chansiri and Gray will remain the public face of the Owls. Pearson and Roeder, after this week’s initial burst of publicity, are expected to slip into the background and focus on their roles in taking the Owls forward.

Pearson added: “Hopefully, by the time the team takes to the pitch in August, you will see a strength in the team with new blood in it.

“You won’t be hearing from Glenn or I about targets, who we are talking to or anything like that.”

Meanwhile, Owls chief executive Paul Aldridge will leave the club at the end of next season.

Having previously worked at West Ham United, Leicester City and Manchester City, he joined the Hillsborough management team under previous owner Milan Mandaric in January, 2011.
