Sheffield Wednesday 0 Charlton Athletic 1: Owls suffer bad day at Hillsborough

JOHNNIE Jackson scored the only goal of the game as League One leaders Charlton Athletic ended Sheffield Wednesday’s unbeaten record at Hillsborough, writes Ian Appleyard.

Winger Jackson scored with a 28th minute freekick after a clumsy challenge by Owls defender Reda Johnson on midfielder Bradley Pritchard.

There was little to choose between the two sides and goalscoring chances were always at a premium.

Charlton striker Bradley Wright-Phillips should have doubled the lead just after the break but Owls goalkeeper Nicky Weaver produced an impressive one-on-one save.

Substitute Clinton Morrison had a header blocked on the line in stoppage time as the Owls threw everything forward in search of an equaliser.

Weaver made another last ditch save at the death from Darel Russell.

The Owls drop to fourth as rivals Huddersfield Town scored a late winner against Oldham Athletic.
