Sheffield Wednesday 1 Fulham 1: Owls duo set to miss Wolves encounter

Sheffield Wednesday were left counting the cost of their draw with Fulham as Liam Palmer and Will Keane limped out of Hillsborough.

Right-back Palmer was stretchered off, swiftly followed by on-loan Manchester United striker Keane, as the Owls were forced into two substitutions before half-time.

The pair departed Hillsborough wearing precautionary protective boots – both having suspected ankle ligament damage – and are big doubts for tomorrow’s trip to Wolverhampton.

Head coach Stuart Gray said: “It’s a big blow and it’s bad enough losing one player to injury, never mind two.

“I will have a meeting with the medical staff and see how they are. It’s too soon to say if they will miss the Wolves game.”

Former Leeds United striker Matt Smith equalised 15 minutes from time. The striker flicked in via the underside of the bar for his second in two games to cancel out Stevie May’s 55th-minute header at Hillsborough.

The home side should have taken the lead in the first of six minutes of first-half stoppage time.

Jeremy Helan’s cross from the left was nodded down by Atdhe Nuhiu to May but he sliced his effort into the arms of Marcus Bettinelli. Nuhiu narrowly failed to convert from close range when a corner from Lewis McGugan was headed to the back post by defender Tom Lees.

Owls striker Caolan Lavery was yesterday recalled from a loan spell at Chesterfield.
