Sheffield Wednesday 2 Plymouth 4: Owls suffer at Hillsborough

Sheffield Wednesday conceded four goals at home to troubled Plymouth at Hillsborough today in League One.

Goals from Bondz N’Gala, Joe Mason (2) and Yannick Bolasie secured an easy three points for the bottom of the table club, Giles Coke and Reda Johnson replying for Wednesday.

Midfielder Coke was available after serving a three game ban but had to settle for a place on the bench as Owls manager Gary Megson kept faith with an unchanged side.

Winger Jermaine Johnson also returned to the bench after recovering from illness but defenders Lewis Buxton and Jon Otsemobor are still out injured.

But the Owls were behind after just 12 minutes when Bondz N’Gala struck in front of the Kop. At the other end Gary Madine head a close-range header blocked.

Gary Teale then hammered the crossbar before Madine fired the rebound wide as the Owls pushed for an equaliser.

But it was 2-0 to the visitors on 31 minutes when Joe Mason headed home from close range.

Megson made a triple substitution at half-time, and it was one of those, Coke, who handed the Owls a lifeline on 61 minutes with a low drive.

But the hope was shortlived as Mason cracked home a stunning third goal to shock Hillsborough before Yannick Bolasie made it 4-1.

Reda Johnson’s late header was a mere consolation.
