Wednesday began their league campaign with an impressive victory at Brighton and they got off to a dream start in their first game in front of the Hillsborough faithful.

Only two minutes were on the clock when Atdhe Nuhiu laid the ball back to Maghoma at the edge of the area and the winger curled a right-footed strike into the top corner.

Joe Mattock nearly doubled Wednesday’s lead soon after but his cross-cum-shot from the
left flank hit the top of the crossbar.

Wednesday did not have to wait much longer for their second, Madine cooly side-footing home Chris Maguire’s pinpoint cross from close range on 10 minutes.

Nuhiu spurned three headed chances before Liam Noble shot narrowly wide from 25 yards for the visitors as they tried in vain to force their way into the tie.

County boss Shaun Derry made a triple substitution at the break but the Owls continued to create the better chances and made sure of the win in the 65th minute when Nuhiu nodded Mattock’s cross past Roy Carroll from six yards.
