Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barkley recalled by Everton

Sheffield Wednesday have lost Ross Barkley after the loan midfielder was recalled by his parent club Everton.

The 18-year-old - who has scored four league goals in 12 starts - has been with the Championship strugglers since September but has been told to return to Goodison Park, as the Toffees have mounting injuries Barkley initially moved to Hillsborough on a one-month deal – an agreement which was later extended by a further four weeks.

That contract came to an end following the Owls’ 1-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest on Saturday and the Blues have decided to bring the youngster back to Merseyside.

David Moyes is without captain Phil Neville after knee surgery ruled him out for two months, while Darron Gibson (thigh) and Kevin Mirallas (hamstring) are also nursing injuries.
