Sunderland striker rejoins Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have signed Connor Wickham on loan until January 1 from Premier League side Sunderland.

The England Under-21s striker enjoyed a loan spell with the Owls late last season, helping them to avouid relegation.

He joins in time for Wednesday’s home game with Reading on Saturday, with the Hillsborough club the only team in English football’s top four divisions without a win.

Wickham, 20, said: “I’m really pleased to come back to Sheffield Wednesday.

“There was interest from other clubs but I feel I have unfinished business here and I can’t wait to get started again.

“I know the manager, I know the players and the place and that was a big influence in my decision.”
