FOOTBALL fans from Scotland have been refused extra tickets for a friendly match in Sheffield because of disruption caused by roadworks and a cycling event.

South Yorkshire Police say “limited amounts of tickets” have been made available to Rangers fans for the match with Sheffield Wednesday on July 24.

Match commander, Chief Inspector Iain Chorlton, said this was due to a Grand Prix cycling event taking place at the same time and roadworks around the ground which have caused several roads to be closed.

He said: “Unfortunately, due to the disruption these may cause the city, the request for extra ticket sales was declined.”

Police expect “more coaches than we have ever had to accommodate previously” for the match.
