However, the Owls chief is equally adamant that the Championship leaders will also recognise the size of the task facing them at Hillsborough.

“We have been analysing Brighton and it is easy to understand why they have not olost even one game,” said the Portuguese at this lunchtime’s press briefing.

“They have a good squad and good organisation. It is why they are having these results and I believe it will be a very hard game for us and them as well.

“No-one has beaten them so that makes them tough. That makes it a big challenge for us. But we are a big challenge for them, as we have not lost in ten games.

“They play in a similar way to us, the teams are similar. Both teams can win, the result is a totally open.”

Carvalhal had previously said his side’s toughest game this season was against second placed Hull City, who drew 1-1 in S 6 midway through last month.

However, ahead of taking on Chris Hughton’s leaders, Carvalhal added: “It is more tough than Hull City.

“Hull probably have better players individually. Brighton have good players also but, in this moment of time, they are a very strong team and the strongest in the division.

“It is why they are in first place. Our players need help from the fans. We want them to give us energy. The fans can make a difference to the balance of the game.”

Sam Hutchinson returns to the squad to face the Seagulls, while Alex Lopez is edging ever closer to being available after a lengthy stint out injured.
