Wycombe Wanderers 1 Sheffield Wednesday 2: Lowe grabs chance as dugout dismissal takes gloss off for Megson

SHEFIELD Wednesday manger Gary Megson issued an apology after being sent off at Wycombe.

The Owls chief felt he was dismissed from the dugout after venting his frustration at being unable to get Rob Jones back onto the pitch.

After the win which kept his side in third place, Megson said: “The only disappointments were their goal and me getting sent off. I asked the referee why that was and I was told a few times I was going over the lines in the technical area. I think somebody complained about my language which I apologise for because it’s not acceptable.”

Megson praised striker Ryan Lowe for heading the winner from Jose Semedo’s cross on his first Owls start following suspension for top scorer Gary Madine.

“We’re fortunate we’ve got four quality strikers,” said Megson. “I don’t know if you view it as a problem or a luxury. When they get the opportunity they’ve got to take it – and Ryan did that.

“We can improve but to come away from home and win 2-1, to hit the crossbar, to hit the post, to have chance after chance is good. We started great, I was delighted with that. We had chances to score before we did but we’ve got to score more and that’s something we need to improve on.”

Lowe’s goal at Adams Park added to Jose Semedo’s 23rd-minute opener which had been cancelled out by 15-year-old Jordan Ibe’s first senior goal for Wycombe.

The gloss of his 29th-minute strike from 18 yards was removed when Ibe was booked for celebrating his first senior goal with his family in the stands.
