Megson said: “I’m more than pleased; I’m delighted with the manner that we won the points.

“We went in at half time 2-1 down and we said we desperately needed to score the next goal and thankfully we did.

“We know we are a threat from set pieces and Ben’s delivery was spot on today.

“We had an awful performance on Tuesday and our backs were against the wall at half time today, but we came through it.”

Striker David McGoldrick made his Owls debut after moving on loan from Nottingham Forest. Winger Jermaine Johnson starts a three match ban and the Owls are still without injured strikers Ryan Lowe and Chris O’Grady. With goalkeeper Nicky Weaver sidelined after knee surgery, Richard O’Donnell beat off competition from Arron Jameson to deputise.

Owls striker Clinton Morrison is set to join League One rivals Milton Keynes Dons on a month’s loan.

Morrison, 32, will become the second player to move on loan from Wednesday to MK Dons this month after the departure of defender Mark Beevers.

Morrison is in the final year of his contract at Hillsborough.

James O’Connor started for Wednesday and there was a place in defence for Reda Johnson, Julian Bennett dropping to the bench.

McGoldrick headed home after 11 minutes but two goals from Kieran Agard before the break piled on the troubles for Megson’s side.

Julian Bennett - on for Rob Jones after 30 minutes - equalised for Wednesday on 53 minutes, before Gary Madine headed home on 72 minutes.
