The wing-back was the third player the Owls have had dismissed in their last four matches.

He was sent off in stoppage time for kicking out at an opponent. Harris looked bemused as he left the field, and manager Garry Monk plans to appeal the decision.

“I saw it at the time and I haven't seen the footage but Kads does a tackle, the lad's on top of him, tries to pin him down and he's trying to wriggle free,” he explained. “I asked Kads why he got sent off and he said the referee said he kicked out but he was just trying to get the player off him, so we'll definitely appeal it.

“The problem is we haven't quite got the footage and just your word doesn't count now but that's how we saw it.

“We can't afford that because Kads is a super lad and a big part of the team.”

Referee Jeremy Simpson had already sent Bournemouth's Steve Cook off for the incident which produced Barry Bannan's penalty - the only goal of the game.

Wednesday's small squad is being tested at the moment, and not always in expected ways.

Aden Flint is due to undergo an operation on his hamstring after picking up an injury in the 3-0 defeat at Rotherham United. Fellow centre-back Tom Lees was due to return from suspension after the red card he received that night, but was unavailable. Joost van Aken was completing his suspension for a red card against Luton Town.

“It's not a good one,” Monk said of Flint's injury. “It was innocuous, a block of a cross, but he just felt a pop in his hamstring so it's definitely not going to be a short-term one. I'm not an expert but I think we're talking a good few weeks at best.

“He's going to have an operation on it and it depends how quickly he recovers from that.

“It probably summed up the week – everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong – injuries, red cards, stuff like that.

“Just before Tuesday's game, Tom Lees's wife went into labour and he's not involved so you just think to yourself – 'Wow! Can we get any more things going against us?' but we dealt with it. He possibly would have started but I hadn't decided yet.”
