Owls chief Garry Monk had expressed his confidence that the quartet would stay put for the remainder of the campaign - despite the departure of several high-profile players at the end of June - and they have all now signed deals to remain until the club's Championship commitments finish at home to Middlesbrough on July 22.

Murphy has been a particularly consistent performer for the Owls since joining last summer on loan from Newcastle United, while Wickham, signed on loan from Crystal Palace in January, has looked impressive since the restart, finding the net in successive matches against Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

The positive developments are a welcome fillip given the departures of top-scorer Steven Fletcher, key defender Morgan Fox and talisman forward Fernando Forestieri, who have elected to leave Hillsborough at the end of their deals on June 30.

Paul Jones, Kieran Lee and Atdhe Nuhiu all recently agreed short term contract extensions to the end of the current campaign.

Meanwhile, Sam Hutchinson and Sam Winnall were released last week.
