OWLS winger Modou Sougou looks to set to miss the rest of the season after surgery on a leg injury.

The Senegalese international - a summer signing from Marseille - tweeted a picture from his hospital bed saying “successful surgery and end of the season”.

Owls head coach Carlos Carvalhal refused to confirm Sougou’s assessment of his unlikely return this season, but confirmed he would need time to recuperate.

Carvalhal said: “Modou has had surgery so he needs time. It is better not to put a target on this sort of situation.

“We will see when he will recover.

“We want to be with all the players but these things can happen.

“Modou is a fantastic professional. He’s a very good colleague. Everyone likes him and we wish him a speedy recovery as he’s an important player in our squad.”

Sougou has made 15 appearances for the Owls this term, netting three goals.

The Owls entertain Charlton Athletic at Hillsborough on Saturday, and will be without Barry Bannan who starts a three-match ban.

Sam Hutchinson and Alex Lopez are the likely candidates to replace Bannan in central midfield.
