Sheffield Wednesday reject offer for Barry Bannan

The Scot, who was handed the skipper’s armband ahead of the new campaign, has been part of the fixtures and fittings at Hillsborough since arriving at the club from Crystal Palace just over five years ago in August 2015,

The Airdrie-born player, 30, in the final year of his contract with the Owls, has made over 200 appearances for the club and been an integral figure during that time.

On the incoming front, Wednesday manager Garry Monk is keen to do some much-needed key business ahead of tomorrow’s domestic transfer deadline with experienced former Middlesbrough defender Aden Flint and West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore being two players who the club have targeted.

Cardiff centre-half Flint is being pursued by the Owls on loan.

The Welsh outfit are also interested in another Wednesday loan target in Wolves defender Dion Sanderson.

Meanwhile, Wednesday face competition from Championsip rivals Derby County for Zohore, who is likely to finally be allowed to move from The Hawthorns with Albion close to signing Huddersfield forward Karlan Grant.

Discussions have reportedly taken place with Zohore and his representatives over a potential move to Pride Park with the Rams switching their attentions to the Dane after previously being interested in Albion frontman Charlie Austin.

Zohore, 26, has yet to feature for Albion this term after netting five goals in all competitions for them last season.

Defender Nathaniel Clyne has rejoined Crystal Palace on a short-term deal eight years after he left Selhurst Park.

The right-back, who has been training with the squad after being released by Liverpool, made 137 appearances for the Eagles between 2008 and 2012.

“I’m a London boy, this is where I grew up. I’m back home and all my family and friends are here,” he said. “It’s surreal being back, enjoying it and hopefully I can just crack on and enjoy my football again.”

England’s international friendly against New Zealand in November has been called off due to travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

Gareth Southgate’s side were due to host the All Whites on Thursday November 12 at Wembley.
