Tony Pulis sees hard work ahead at Sheffield Wednesday and updates Kieren Westwood injury situation

Adam Reach put Wednesday ahead with their first goal in open play since October 21, but substitute Ayew gave Swansea a share of the spoils after a much-improved second-half display from the hosts.

This was coach Pulis’s second match in charge of Wednesday since succeeding Garry Monk and gave him his first point since coming on board, but the Welshman has still not won a game at the Liberty Stadium during his long managerial career.

Wednesday had lost five of their previous seven games and their main problems lay in front of goal with only one penalty converted in the last six matches.

Kasey Palmer’s last-gasp goal was ruled out amid Swansea claims for a penalty during an incredible goalmouth scramble in the Wednesday six-yard box, leaving Swansea boss Cooper furious with referee Andy Woolmer.

“The lads have worked really hard, they’re a really good group of lads,” Pulis said. “There are lots we have to work on and lots I’d like to put in place, but to think we had six players out.

“Those players would have started so they’ve done fantastically well, especially with two away games in a row.

One blow for Pulis was losing goalkeeper lost Keiren Westwood to injury early in the first half, with it being confirmed the veteran will be assessed ahead of Saturday’s contest with Stoke at Hillsborough.

“He’s tweaked his groin as he made a clearance and couldn’t continue,” explained Pulis.

“We’ll assess him when we get back to Sheffield and I feel sorry for the lad tonight, I rate him as one of the best keepers in the Championship and I want to play him.”
