Tony Pulis on Sheffield Wednesday's 'worst 20 minutes' of his time at Hillsborough

Tony Pulis lambasted his Sheffield Wednesday players for the worst 20 minutes of his tenure as they lost 2-0 to Huddersfield Town.

The goals were both scored in the early stages – by Josh Koroma and Isaac Mbenza – as the Owls were a complete rabble, seemingly not knowing their jobs and changing formation.

Once Mbenza's 24th-minute free-kick hit the back of the net there was only going to be one winner, especially given the Owls' dire record in front of goal this season.

“The first 20 minutes we were all over the place,” said Wednesday manager Pulis, whose sides are usually renowned for the opposite. “That's the worst 20 minutes I've had since I've come here.

“You give them a 2-0 start and it's uphill all the way.

“We showed more commitment second half without showing any quality. Whether it is because it is the fourth away game out of six away from home and we have done all the travelling...the lads looked really, really tired in the first 20 minutes.

“It took them that time to get going.

“They raised a bit of a gallop in the second half but nowhere near enough if you want to win football matches at this level.

“I'm really, really disappointed.

“We’ve really got to try and knuckle something down and keep to it for the next four or five games. “

Julian Borner went off after a first-half bang to the face which left him looking dazed but the half-time withdrawal of holding midfielder Massimo Luongo was tactical.

“He just looked a little bit short to be honest,” said Pulis. “They completely ran over the top of us in the first 20 to 25 minutes and we were chasing the game. We needed a break and we didn't get one. We needed a bit of quality and we didn't have that.”
