Shrewsbury 3 Bradford City 1: Robinson hat-trick stuns Bantams

BRADFORD manager Peter Taylor is not about to push the panic button just yet despite a "disappointing" opening day defeat to 10-man Shrewsbury.

Jake Robinson's hat-trick proved the Bantams' undoing as they were well beaten at Greenhous Meadow.

To make matters worse, the visitors had a chance to at least salvage a point with 22 minutes remaining when Kevin McIntyre saw red for a needless foul on Tommy Doherty.

"I don't like losing, some of the things we did in the second half we poor but some of the things we did in the first half were encouraging," reflected Taylor ahead of tomorrow night's League Cup first round game at home to Nottingham Forest.

"It's about how we bounce back now – and I'm sure we will. There's an awful long way to go this season, but we know it's going to be tough because there's some strong teams in this division."

Tom Adeyemi gave Taylor's charges the perfect start with a 24th minute close-range strike after a lovely pass from James Hanson.

But the day soon got worse for the visitors as Robinson bagged his first of the afternoon 11 minutes before the break with a clinical strike, before scoring twice in the space of five minutes after the restart to put the game beyond reach.

A sweet header did the trick in the 51st minute and then a close-range strike soon after effectively secured the points, although McIntyre's moment of madness meant for a few nervy minutes towards the end.

"I was disappointed with the way we defended at times because we'd done some good things," added Taylor. "In the second half, we defended badly and they hurt us, but I was pleased with the way we performed in the first half."
