Shrewsbury v Huddersfield: David Wagner unperturbed by Nahki Wells '˜rumours'

HUDDERSFIELD Town's head coach David Wagner is 'totally relaxed' over Nahki Wells's future after revealing there has been no contact from any clubs despite speculation linking Derby and Norwich with a move for the striker.

The Bermuda international is expected to make his first appearance of the season tonight as the Terriers look to improve a wretched recent record in the EFL Cup, formerly the League Cup.

Wells, top scorer at the John Smith’s Stadium in the past two seasons, sat out the opening-day win over Brentford after a pre-season dogged by a troubling knee problem, but that did not prevent him being linked with a possible move away from the Yorkshire club.

“I am totally relaxed over Nahki Wells,” said Wagner when asked about the record signing. “He likes it here and I like him here. These are all rumours. We have had no phone calls or emails from other clubs about him.”

Town head to Shrewsbury having won just 11 League Cup ties since the turn of the Millennium.

In those 16 seasons, they have been knocked out in the first round seven times and are yet to get further than the third round.

“We want a good Cup run,” added the German, about to experience the League Cup for the first time. “It was important to start the season with a good performance, but now that is in the past and we look forward, The league is irrelevant for me now, we are totally focused on the Cup.”

Last six games: Shrewsbury Town LWLLLL, Huddersfield Town WDDLLW.

Referee: G Salisbury (Lancashire).

Last time: Shrewsbury Town 2 Huddersfield Town 1; April 22, 1995; Division Two.
