York City 2 Stockport County 2 (August 31, 1932, division three): York’s Tom Mitchell scored the first goal at Bootham Crescent in front of 8,106 supporters.

York City 2 Stockport County 2 (August 31, 1932, division three): York’s Tom Mitchell scored the first goal at Bootham Crescent in front of 8,106 supporters.

York City 0 Derby County 1 (January 12, 1935, FA Cup third round): The Rams became the first top-division side to play at Bootham Cresent, watched by a then-club record attendance of 13,612. Sammy Crooks scored their winner.

York City 0 Huddersfield Town 0 (March 5, 1938, FA Cup quarter-final): The Terriers were taken to a Leeds Road replay which they won 2-1 en route to lifting the cup. The 28,123 crowd was Bootham’s biggest.

York City 3 Tottenham Hotspur 1 (February 19, 1955, FA Cup fifth round): The “Happy Wanderers” came from behind to beat a Spurs team featuring Alf Ramsey and Danny Blanchflower en route to the FA Cup semi-final. Billy Fenton’s goal was sandwiched by a Norman Wilkinson double.

York City 1 Arsenal 0 (January 26, 1985, FA Cup fourth round): Keith Houchen’s 90th-minute penalty was the only goal as Third Division York beat an Arsenal line-up featuring eight internationals in arguably the greatest win at the ground. Two years later Houchen scored a diving header for Coventry City in the final.

York City 1 Liverpool 1 (February 15, 1986, FA Cup fifth round): 364 days after Ricky Sbragia’s goal held European Champions Liverpool to a fifth-round draw (they won the replay 7-0), York proved it was no fluke. The Reds scraped another replay when Jan Molby’s disputed penalty cancelled out Gary Ford’s goal, and went on to win the double
