Stockport County 3 Rotherham United 3: Taylor hits equaliser for Millers to snatch late draw

Promotion hopefuls Rotherham United struck two late goals to salvage a draw against struggling Stockport County in a terrific game at Edgeley Park.

An own goal from Matthew Grieve and a header from Ryan Taylor pulled the Millers back from the brink after they had been facing defeat at 3-2 down, with Andy Warrington also playing a key part by saving a first-half penalty.

Ishmel Demontagnac stabbed the hosts into a 33rd minute lead after latching onto a defence-splitting ball from Paul Turnbull.

Rotherham were level just over a minute later when Kevin Ellison marked his return to the side by lashing in a shot from an angle after Adam Le Fondre set him up.

The Millers top scorer then turned villain when he handled Robbie Williams's free kick six minutes before half time.

Anthony Elding struck the resulting penalty well but Warrington dived full stretch to keep it out.

Stephen Husband volleyed the hosts back into the lead shortly after half time and repeated the feat on 68 minutes to make it 3-1.

It looked like the Millers' efforts to close the gap on Chesterfield at the top of League Two had been frustrated until a remarkable turnaround in the final 10 minutes.

Grieve's deflected own goal, heading past a helpless Owain fon Williams, gave the Millers hope as the clock ticked down and they equalised a minute from time when Ryan Taylor rose superbly to head in a Nicky Law free kick.

Substitute Tom Pope hit the outside of a post as Ronnie Moore's men laid siege to the home goal in five minutes of injury time but Stockport held on to halt the Millers' three-match winning run.

Stockport County: O Williams, R Williams, Turnbull, Assoumani, Tansey, Elding, Husband (Vincent 82), Demontagnac, Griffin, Halls, Grieve. Unused substitutes: Lynch, Poole, Mainwaring, Fisher, Rose, Glennon.

Rotherham United defender Stephen Brogan has joined Blue Square Bet north side Stalybridge Celtic on a one-month loan deal.

Brogan, 22, has been unable to command a regular place in the Millers side since returning from a horrific leg injury which kept him on the sidelines for 15 months.

His leg was fractured in two places against MK Dons in February, 2008 and Brogan has made only 13 appearances since.
