Striker merry-go-round sees Price and Grella on the move

BRADFORD City have signed Jason Price on loan following Carlisle United's swoop for Leeds United striker Mike Grella.

The former Doncaster Rovers striker played under manager Peter Taylor at Hull City and was also a target for the Bantams in the summer.

With James Hanson still out injured, Price – who joined Carlisle in the summer after a short loan spell last season – is likely to make his debut this weekend against Cheltenham at Valley Parade.

"I don't know 100 per cent if I am playing," he said. "But I am extremely hungry, it's a league down, and I think I can score goals."

Grella moves to Carlisle, also on a month's deal, after falling down the pecking order at Elland Road.

The American has not even been on the bench for Leeds's last seven games and appears to have limited opportunities following the signing of Ross McCormack, the improvement in Davide Somma, and the imminent return from injury of Billy Paynter.

"With Jason going to Bradford, and Mike coming to us, we think that this will be a big benefit to all three clubs and to the players involved," said Carlisle manager Greg Abbott, who has links with both West Yorkshire clubs.

"We need Jason to be fit and ready when we need him and Bradford need someone who can go straight into their team and give the opposition problems – he is certainly a player who will do that."

Price, 33, joined Carlisle on a one-year deal this summer after being released by Millwall. He won back-to-back promotions during his time with Hull and helped Doncaster win promotion to the Championship.

Grella, 23, still has over 18 months remaining on his contract with Leeds.

"He's young, full of energy, and wants to play football," said Abbott. "His opportunities have been limited (at Leeds) so he will come here and give us something a bit different."

Leeds manager Simon Grayson is set to sign Tony Warner on a non-contract basis today and solve a temporary goalkeeping crisis ahead of Saturday's game with Middlesbrough.

With Kasper Schmeichel, Shane Higgs and youngster Alex Cairns injured plus Alan Martin on loan at Barrow, Grayson only has loanee Jason Brown available for the televised clash at the Riverside Stadium.

Warner, 33, played in a midweek reserve team defeat against Scunthorpe United and is without a club after being released in the summer by Charlton.

"I got called in Monday to play on Tuesday. It was the first game I've had in a long time and I enjoyed it," he said. "I've been told to come in Thursday and we will see what happens."

Paul Connolly, meanwhile, could make his return for Leeds this weekend after recovering from a hamstring injury. The full-back played 60 minutes against Scunthorpe's reserves with no ill-effects.

Striker Paynter played his first 45 minutes of the season after being sidelined with a shin injury following his summer arrival from Swindon Town.
