Tehoue’s late strike adds to the Gunners’ workload

SUBSTITUTE Jonathan Tehoue became Leyton Orient’s saviour with a last-gasp equaliser against Arsenal to earn a lucrative FA Cup replay at the Emirates.

Arsenal had appeared to be cruising into the quarter-finals thanks to a 53rd-minute glancing header from Tomas Rosicky.

But Tehoue came off the bench to drive home a leveller in the last minute at Brisbane Road and keep alive the League One side’s dreams of a last-eight meeting with Manchester United at Old Trafford, with whom they and the Gunners were paired shortly before yesterday’s kick-off at Brisbane Road.

“We were the underdog but we got a draw and we’re looking forward to the replay now,” said man-of-the-match Tehoue, who replaced Scott McGleish on 63 minutes.

“We had to keep believing.

“We were prepared to fight to get through. We couldn’t do it the first time and it’s down to the next game now.”

Defender Ben Chorley said: “It was a great strike by the big man.

“We knew it was going to be tough and that they would have a lot of the ball.

“At half-time we said if we get a chance let’s make sure we take it.”

Arsene Wenger admitted a sense of frustration that Arsenal failed to kill off Orient.

The Gunners’ manager had made 10 changes from the side which had beaten Barcelona in midweek, but lacked a cutting edge in attack aside from Rosicky’s goal.

With an already congested fixture list – which includes next Sunday’s Carling Cup final against Birmingham at Wembley – the last thing Wenger will have wanted was a replay, which is set for March 2, just a week before they head out to Spain for the second leg of their Champions League last 16 clash.

“We have played the game with the right attitude and could not fault our fighting spirit, but you also have to give credit to Leyton Orient because they never gave up and fought very hard,” Wenger said.

“As long as you do not score the second goal, that can happen.

“Overall it is a disappointment, but we are still in the competition and will now play at home.”

Ivan Klasnic scored Bolton’s winner in last Wednesday’s fourth-round replay against Wigan and he was on target again yesterday as Bolton beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage to book a trip to Birmingham.

Greater Manchester Police yesterday confirmed that Klasnic will not face charges over the alleged rape of a teenage girl, following an investigation dating back to October.

West Ham United and Burnley will battle tonight for the right to play Stoke away in the sixth round while Manchester City’s 5-0 defeat of Notts County in a fourth-round replay yesterday means they will face Aston Villa at home for the right to host either Everton or Reading in the last-eight ties.
