Tigers reject chance of bringing in Mido

HULL CITY manager Phil Brown has rejected the opportunity to re-unite new signing Amr Zaki with Egyptian team-mate Mido.

Striker Zaki has joined the Tigers on loan from El Zamalek until the end of the season and striker Mido is also playing for Zamalek on loan from Middlesbrough.

Hull chairman Adam Pearson said: "We were offered the chance to sign Mido and Phil Brown discussed the situation but we have decided he is not someone we want to pursue."

Former Charlton Athletic defender Jonathan Fortune has extended his deal with Sheffield United until the end of the season.

Fortune, 29, has struggled with injuries since arriving at Bramall Lane as a free agent in the summer and has made only two appearances.

Manager Kevin Blackwell, however, still feels that Fortune can provide competition at the back, especially if Matthew Kilgallon is sold during the transfer window.

"Jon is an experienced professional and it's great to have him on board," said Blackwell.

"He has been plagued with injuries but when we needed him at Barnsley he came in and did a great job.

"Although he could do with a little more time (to recover from a hamstring problem), I put him on the bench on Saturday because we were short of defensive cover."

Winger Jamal Campbell-Ryce says he was not given a chance by Barnsley manager Mark Robins.

The Jamaican international winger has been sold to Championship rivals Bristol City after making just two starts for Robins since his appointment four months ago.

"Every footballer will tell you that they want to play – and I wasn't getting that," he said.

"He said I was part of his plans, his squad plans, but, sorry, I'm not interested in that. Since I came back from my eye injury I've played a couple of games. Does that count as a chance? I don't think so."

Campbell-Ryce made his 100th and final appearance for the Tykes as a substitute in last weekend's 2-1 defeat by struggling Sheffield Wednesday at Oakwell.

Oster, 31, had recently completed a six-month deal with Rovers after being released by Crystal Palace last summer.

Rovers are also trying to wrap up a permanent deal for Southampton midfielder Simon Gillett, who has impressed on loan.

Preston defender Neal Trotman looks set to join Huddersfield Town on loan for the rest of the season.

North End boss Darren Ferguson is happy for the centre-back to head to West Yorkshire.

"I have spoken to the lad, he is happy to go. It is not a done deal yet, but it is progressing that way," said Ferguson.
