Town boss not getting carried away with star

Roy Keane is refusing to get carried away with teenage hero Connor Wickham – despite the striker netting his first Championship goal as Ipswich pipped Scunthorpe 1-0.

The 16-year-old, who turns 17 later this month, netted a brilliant injury-time winner to settle a poor contest.

The substitute juggled the ball in the box, turned and slotted home with aplomb to notch his first league goal.

Blues boss Keane was full of praise for the youngster but warned of the pitfalls ahead.

"I'm pleased for Connor," he said. "I had a feeling he might have an influence on the game.

"I was surprised by the way it opened up for him and it was a good time to score. But it remains to be seen if he's a natural finisher. We'll know in the next few years."

Aside from Wickham's heroics, the game will be remembered for two red cards as Scunthorpe's Cliff Byrne was dismissed for an off-the-ball barge on Jack Colback and Town's Damien Delaney then followed him down the tunnel for a trip on striker Jonathan Forte.
