Town have the better squad and should be good enough to win

If we are being honest, we have probably under-achieved this season. Our target was automatic promotion and we have ended up in fourth place. But I think we have been a bit unlucky.

We couldn’t compete with Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday, which was disappointing because I still believe we have got the best team and best squad of footballers in the whole league. Man for man, there is nobody better than this Huddersfield Town squad.

But we still have that chance to win promotion and, if we do that, it will have been a great season.

Jordan Rhodes is probably the best striker I have seen in Huddersfield Town’s colours. There have been a lot of good strikers but, as an out-and-out goalscorer, nobody better. There is no reason why he can’t go as far as (Town legend) Denis Law.

I know Jordan says he is Scottish through and through but it would have been nice to think he had a chance of playing for England and maybe leading England out in a World Cup. That’s how highly I rate him.

I am disappointed that the English hierarchy didn’t realise that and come down to look in Division One where there are some good players. Jordan is one they have missed and it disappoints me.

I am not taking anything away from Old Trafford last season but Wembley is where a proper final should be. I am not bothered what the score is, we just need a blue and white win.

Sheffield United are a nice football team but they have obviously lost a lot of goals in the main striker (Ched Evans) which is a big plus for us. I saw the two play-off games and they really looked as if they were struggling to score goals. Where we have goals in the team, Sheffield are struggling.

We know it’s going to be tough but I am looking forward to what should be a ‘real’ game. Two teams who like to get the ball down. It should be a great spectacle.

As a club, we have been in this divison too long. It’s a big club and we need to get in there. A lot of credit goes to (the chairman) Dean Hoyle who has built the club up over the last few years. Behind the scenes, it is a Chamnpionship club. All we need now is Championship football.

All things being equal, I think we have the slightly better team but whoever’s lucky day it is, will win it.

If the luck is with you on the day, you win the game.

Looking back to 1995, we won the play-off final but Bristol Rovers hit the post, the crossbar, and missed a couple of good chances in the last 20 minutes when it was backs-to-the-wall stuff. I had the feeling that year that our name could be on the Cup.
