Tranmere Rovers 0 Bradford City 1: Mark Trueman wants Bantams to 'keep improving' after third straight win

Bradford City caretaker manager Mark Trueman urged his players to 'keep pushing themselves to get better' in the wake of the club's Boxing Day success at Tranmere Rovers.

Saturday's win was the Bantams' third on the spin since Stuart McCall was sacked earlier this month, and saw the men from Valley Parade move seven points clear of the League Two relegation zone.

"We just need to keep improving and pushing ourselves to get better,” Trueman told the club's website.

“The players have really bought in to what we are trying to implement and it is important for us to keep that up.

“The games we are winning are breeding confidence and we are applying ourselves well and playing with determination and grittiness, but also creating chances and hurting teams going forward.

“We will not let our standards drop or change the way we have been doing things, because it has brought us success up to this point.”

Tranmere were ultimately undone by Lee Novak's 62nd-minute header from a Levi Sutton cross, but City did not have things all their own way at Prenton Park and had to show plenty of resilience over the course of the 90 minutes.

“Lee Novak scored a great goal at the right time which allowed us to see the game out. Overall, it was a very pleasing performance," Trueman added.

"It was a very disciplined performance. Credit where it is due, Tranmere were very good and caused us a lot of tactical problems.

“We had to deal with a lot of threats which they presented and I thought our work rate and intensity - in and out of possession - was up to the standards we set."

Victory leaves Bradford 18th in the League Two standings.
