SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY could be set for a second raid upon Oakwell, with the Owls deliberating over whether to make a bid for in-demand Barnsley captain Conor Hourihane.

The Irishman, yet to pen fresh terms with his current deal up in the summer, is the subject of interest from a host of clubs, including Aston Villa, Rangers and Celtic.

It remains to be seen whether Hourihane, as some are venturing, will run down his contract or agree an extension, with Barnsley faced with a bit of a quandary, as it stands.

Talk of a potential move for Hourihane to Hillsborough is likely to significantly alarm Reds supporters, with another key player in Sam Winnall to complete his move to the Owls today.

According to reports, Leeds United have rejected three bids from Premier League sides for left-back Charlie Taylor - following offers from Crystal Palace, West Brom and Middlesbrough.

Taylor handed in a transfer request last summer but failed to get a move to the Premier League as Leeds held firm on their reluctance to sell.

Meanwhile, Palace are keen on boosting their survival bid by landing Boro midfielder Stewart Downing and Hull City’s Jake Livermore.

Downing has been told he can leave the club by manager Aitor Karanka, with the 32-year-old played under Sam Allardyce at West Ham United before moving to Boro and the former England boss will hope to get a deal sorted for a player he knows so well.

Livermore, who picked up a solitary England cap in 2012, is also on the radar of Allardyce after impressing in a difficult season for the Tigers.

On the inward front, Boro are reportedly close to completing an £8m deal for Stoke City midfielder Bojan Krkic.

With Karanka having identified Bojan as his preferred midfield target, Boro officials have been in touch with their counterparts at the Britannia Stadium to discuss a potential move for the Spaniard.

Earlier this month, Mark Hughes maintained that he wanted to retain the 26-year-old, but the Stoke chief publicly criticised Bojan after hauling him off at half-time in last weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Wolves and the Potters may know reluctantly clear the path for the ex-Barcelona trainee to move on.
