Transfer gossip (Tues, Aug 16): Deals almost done for Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are expected to complete the signing of Burnley midfielder David Jones today - as the Clarets balance their books following the £7.5m signing of Belgian star Steven Defour.

Jones, 31, is set to sign a three-year deal with the Owls, who have matched a buyout clause in his Turf Moor contract as they seek to seal their sixth signing of the summer.

The much-travelled schemer has made 112 Premier League appearances during spells at Burnley, Wigan, Wolves and Derby and will undergo a medical this morning.

Meanwhile, Leeds United are poised to complete the protracted signing of Sunderland midfielder Liam Bridcutt today.

The 27-year-old is likely to be unveiled today, having agreed to a large cut on his £26,000-a-week deal on Wearside and agreeing terms on a two-year deal ahead of a move.

The signing of Bridcutt could be followed by the capture of Belgian left-back Bryan Verboom, with reports in Belgium claiming that the Zulte Waregem player has agreed personal terms with Leeds.

Ex-Belgium under-21 international Verboom, 24, is expected to be a replacement for Charlie Taylor who Leeds confirmed handed in a transfer request this month.

The Brussels-born player made 23 appearances for Waregem last term - scoring three goals - and is contracted at the Belgian Jupiler League outfit until 2019, having joined them for £170,000 from Anderlecht in 2013

United - who last week signed Bristol City right-back Luke Ayling - reportedly failed with a bid for the former Anderlecht player recently, but have maintained their interest.

Middlesbrough have been linked with a move for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier, who is also reportedly on the radar of AC Milan and Torino.
