New Hornets manager Walter Mazzarri is weighing up whether to make a bid for the Tigers frontman in the summer window, while Roma are monitoring developments regarding the Uruguayan, who is also interesting Fiorentina.

Roma director of football Walter Sabatini signed Hernandez from Uruguayan outfit Penarol when he was in an identical role at Palermo in 2009.

Meanwhile, Mazzarri showed an interest in Hernandez when he was manager of Inter Milan in 2014 - ahead of the forward heading to East Yorkshire.

Former Middlesbrough loanee Gaston Ramirez is also on the wanted list of Watford, with him and Hernandez sharing the same agent - Pablo Bentacur.

Boro remain keen on bringing back Ramirez to the Riverside, despite suggestions he has signed a pre-contract agreement with former club Penarol.

The Teessiders are seeking to lure Sporting Gijon defender Bernando Espinosa to the club with the Colombian international having confirmed he is leaving Spain.

The 26-year-old, who has reportedly rejected a new deal at the La Liga club, which reportedly would have made him the club’s highest-ever paid player, spoke with Boro officials last week - having held discussions with the promoted side twice in the past month.

Watford are believed holding out for a fee of around £2m for Sheffield Wednesday target Daniel Pudil - who spent a productive season on loan at Hillsborough last term.

Wednesday want to re-sign Pudil on a permanent basis ahead of the start of pre-season on July 4, with the clubs having held talks - although the asking price is thought to be putting off the Owls.

Ipswich Town is emerging as a surprise possible destination for transfer-listed Sheffield United defender Keiron Freeman, who is also interesting Portsmouth where he spent a loan spell in 2015-16.
