The Bermuda international fired an impressive 18 goals last term following a haul of 14 in 2014-15 and admits to being revitalised following the arrival of David Wagner.

Speaking recently, Wells said that he is ambitious to play in the Premier League at some point further down the line in his career - with several clubs linked with the forward.

But football operations chief Stuart Webber said that Town are “relaxed” about speculation over his future - adding that they would not welcome any interest.

Speaking in the Bermuda press, Wells said: “I have to respect my club, but at the same time I am always open to trying to better myself.

“If a great opportunity comes along then that’s something myself and Huddersfield would have to look into.

“Whatever happens in the future will happen and I am not too keen to attack the situation at the moment.

“But I do think I’m able and ready to play in the Premier League.”

Middlesbrough are set to end their pursuit of Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, with the Slovakian edging closer to a summer move to Turkish side Besiktas.

The 31-year-old centre-half is on the look-out for new employers with his agents gauging interest in the player.

Boro were offered the chance to make an approach, but are not thought to rate Skrtel as a priority.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that Sheffield United beat fellow SkyBet League One rivals Charlton Athletic to the signing of winger Mark Duffy.

Duffy and Bury defender Chris Hussey joined the club last week, with manager Chris Wilder now focusing his attentions on signing a centre-half.

Hull City target Will Grigg is also interesting Nottingham Forest.
