ROTHERHAM UNITED are bidding to sign Scunthorpe United midfielder Duane Holmes, with Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers and Derby County also keen.

The former Huddersfield Town player, 23, has impressed in two seasons with the Iron and after signing a two-year deal with the club in 2016, the Glanford Park outfit exercised their option to extend his deal until the end of next season in May.

But the lure of the Championship is likely to prove attractive to American-born Holmes, who impressed in the Iron’s League One play-off semi-final with the Millers.

Bradford City have reportedly had a bid rejected for highly-rated Grimsby Town forward Siriki Dembele.

Dembele, who is the older brother of Celtic wonderkid Karamoko Dembele, handed in a transfer request at Blundell Park earlier this month.

The 21-year-old caught the eye after joining the Mariners from the Nike Academy last summer and went on to score four goals in 39 appearances - and won the EFL’s Young Player of the Month award for October last year.

Benfica striker Joao Amaral is a summer target for Sheffield Wednesday, according reports in his native Portugal.

The 26-year-old recently joined the Portuguese giants on the back of a successful season at Vitoria Setubal, which saw him score nine goals.

However, Benfica appear willing to move him out immediately on loan.
