The 23-year-old has joined from 2. Bundesliga side FC Ingolstadt 04 and could make his move to the John Smith's Stadium permanent in the summer.

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner swooped for the full-back after a deal for Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom collapsed due to a failed medical.

On Hadergionaj's signing, Wagner said: “It was important in this window that we found a real competitor for the right back position and in Florent, we have exactly the right player.

“Florent is one of the most exciting young right backs in Germany and is a footballer who I believe will fit our system and style of play very well. He is a real Terrier in defence and likes to attack whenever possible, which is perfect for how we want to play.

“I have met with him and he is a good character; he is eager to show he can play in the Premier League despite a lot of interest from some top clubs in Germany. I’m looking forward to working with him on the training pitch.”

Hadergjonaj started his career at Swiss Super League side Young Boys where he won the club's ‘Player of the Year’ accolade in 2015.

After 88 senior appearances – several of which came in European competition – he joined Bundesliga outfit FC Ingolstadt 04, which is also the former club of Town striker Elias Kachunga, for a reported £2 million on a four-year contract.

He started 25 top flight games last season, scoring once and grabbing two assists; form which earned him a first senior cap for his country in an international friendly against Belarus in June 2017.
