Troubled Iron may plump for boss Knill

Bury manager Alan Knill has hinted he could be set to take the vacant manager’s position at Championship side Scunthorpe United.

Knill’s Shakers currently sit in third place in League Two and the former Rotherham boss said: “It’s flattering as they’re a Championship team and there are eight games left in the Championship to stay in it.

“Unfortunately, sometimes opportunities come along and you have to make decisions that aren’t easy or popular.”

Knill, who has been in charge at Gigg Lane since February 2008, added: “Right now I’ve got eight games left to have a great season with my players here.

“I obviously hear a lot of talk but right now I’m Bury’s manager and happy to be Bury’s manager and if that changes, it changes.”

The Shakers have been amongst the promotion chasers all season but have stumbled lately, taking just two points from their last four matches.

Knill added: “I don’t think you can rule anything out in football, nothing surprises anybody.”
