Rotherham United are making moves to sign Hibernian striker Jason Cummings - according to reports in Scotland.

The Millers have reportedly made contact with the Edinburgh outfit regarding Cummings, who fired 25 goals last term, with the player someone who manager Alan Stubbs knows well from his time at Easter Road.

But new Hibees chief Neil Lennon remains hopeful of getting Cummings to recommit to the Hibs’ cause and is seeking to secure his services on a longer-term deal.

Lennon flew the player and his agent out to Paris for face-to-face talks while working as a BBC pundit at Euro 2016, with positively resolving the future of the frontman being his number one priority.

But Cummings has other options, including Rotherham, despite Stubbs promising he would not raid his former club for their top stars when he quit Hibs earlier this summer.

Lennon said: “I’m hoping to get the Cummings negotiations finished off quick. If we can, that will be another boost to the squad.

“If we can keep him it means we’ve got a 25-goal striker in our ranks, which will be very important if we want to get out of the Championship.”

Rotherham are keen to make further moves in the transfer market following the capture of Walsall winger Anthony Forde.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly interested in Modena midfielder Andrea Mazzarani, 26, who hit eight goals for the Serie B outfit last term.

Meanwhile, city neighbours Sheffield United are eyeing a move for Oldham defender James Wilson to boost their defensive ranks, having submitted three bids for other players, including MK Dons centre-half Kyle McFadzean.

Wilson, 27, who has refused fresh terms at Boundary Park, has also been linked with Shrewsbury Town, Leyton Orient and Rochdale.

Out-of-favour Barnsley defender Lewin Nyatanga has been linked with a move to John Sheridan’s Notts County.

Meanwhile, former Huddersfield Town loanee Jamie Paterson is set to stay put at Nottingham Forest.

Middlesbrough are now focusing on fresh targets following the £11.75m signing of Dutch midfielder Marten De Roon from Italian club Atalanta, their third signing of the close season.

The 25-year-old becomes Boro’s second most expensive ever recruit, behind Brazilian striker Afonso Alves, who the Teessiders bought for £12.7m in 2008.

Derby midfielder Will Hughes is on the wanted list of Hull City, who are also keeping tabs on Welsh Euro 2016 sensation Hal Robson-Kanu, a free agent after leaving Reading.

Swansea are reportedly in the box seat to sign Robson-Kanu, also interesting Celtic, Southampton and Watford.

Leeds United are on the verge of sealing the loan signing of 22-year-old Sporting Lisbon prospect Hadi Sacko.

The French forward is set to join United on a season-long deal, becoming the club’s third recruit of the summer.
