Just a week on from the summer transfer window closing, the loan market has now opened and will remain so until November 27.

While Barnsley brought in 12 players and were one of the busier clubs across Yorkshire during the summer, Mansford – while delighted with the club’s business and the continued backing of owner Patrick Cryne – admits the Reds have still not quite covered all of their bases yet.

He said: “We are happy with our business so far. We have got Ross Turnbull to come back in and Kane Hemmings obviously has come back and got his goal last Tuesday against York City.

“I think our 1 to 14 is quite strong and we are a match for anyone in this league right now.

“Where we are now is that we maybe need an experienced couple of bodies – maybe one up front and in midfield – to add to the squad.

“After that, I think we are about done.

“The budget has been much better than it was because of the tremendous support of Patrick Cryne, our owner, to back the club again and we are thankful for that.

“After the strong 14, 15 to 16 in the squad, we will rely on the likes of Paul Digby, Brad Abbott and George Smith, who are all local lads if we get a few injuries.

“If they can go in and be competitive, then I think we can hopefully challenge for the top six.”

He added: “I think we know where we want to go and won’t sign anyone unless it is right.

“We have short-listed in a few positions and we are pretty confident in two or three positions that things will work out.”
