BARNSLEY head coach Valerien Ismael says the club will be trying everything to bring in a striker ahead of Monday’s winter window transfer deadline.

The club have seen a bid for Wigan’s in-demand young striker Kyle Joseph rebuffed by the Lancashire club, but remain interested in the 19-year-old, while also having other striker targets.

Ismael, who said that there were no updates regarding the contractual situation with Alex Mowatt - with the Frenchman remaining relaxed about the situation - said: “We try everything to get one striker. I don’t think it is a secret now.

“We have some names on our list and we know exactly what we want and we will work on it and Dane Murphy is working hard on this case and we want to find a solution.

On the situation with Mowatt, whose current deal expires in June with discussions continuing regarding a new contract, he continued: “We are focused and Alex is focused. I have to say I am calm in this case.

“I am very, very calm and comfortable and I have a good feeling with the way he plays for the moment and the way we deal with the situation in the club.

“We are doing our job and we speak and stay in touch with Alex and his agent. That is why we are calm and not worried about the transfer situation.

Meanwhile, Ismael said the loan destination of Isaac Christie-Davies, who is to move out to a club on the continent, will be confirmed later today.

Ismael: “We will see today. It will be done today. We will have to wait. He needs to play, i think it is the same situation with Luke Thomas and Elliot (Simoes)."

Jordan Williams returned to training today, but Liam Kitching (groin) has suffered a slight set-back.
