Video: Cardiff City v Leeds United - Christiansen is focusing on trying to ensure Bluebirds do not clip leaders wings

LEEDS UNITED head coach Thomas Christiansen insists any talk of possible automatic promotion is hugely premature as he prepares to take on former Elland Road chief Neil Warnock.

Tonight’s clash in south Wales pits third-placed Cardiff City against the leaders in a clash that the United chief admits will be a huge test for his players.

“I don’t look further than one or two games so I don’t look at myself in that situation,” said Christiansen when asked if a place in the top two come the end of the season was a realistic target.

“It would be nice and we have our dreams to fulfil and we all work on trying to achieve that. But if it is possible or not, time will tell.”

Pierre-Michel Lasogga will lead the attack after returning from a flying visit to Germany to see his baby daughter for the first time.

The loanee from Hamburg, who has three goals from four starts for Leeds, only informed Christiansen of Milou Emilia’s birth on Friday night after the weekend victory over Ipswich Town.

“I am a person who doesn’t talk too much about private situations,” was Lasogga’s explanation when asked why he kept mum about the new arrival for 24 hours.

Christiansen admitted his surprise at the striker’s reticence, but added: “He didn’t want to take the attention away from anyone and I am pleased for that.

“I know what it is to be a dad and I forced one of my births a little bit (during his playing career), but I can understand how he handled it. I liked very much the way he handled the situation.”

Lasogga’s fitness in the wake of several return flights to Germany over the past fortnight will be assessed ahead of kick-off, along with that of Pontus Jansson after the Swede missed the last two games with a “minor muscle” injury.

For his part, Lasogga wants to play against the Bluebirds as Leeds look to get one over their old manager.

“I feel good,” added the 25-year-old. “I came back (on Sunday) at 8pm and now we go to Cardiff to stay as number one in the league.

“You never know when you come new to a club what will happen. That is why I am so happy that I have been able to help the team with my goals, my assists and my work.

“I didn’t know the big history (of the club) or about these crazy fans. That is why I am so happy that I am playing here. There is a fantastic atmosphere.”

As for baby Milou Emilia, the new father added: “I went to my baby (over the weekend) and held her in my arms. It was a special moment for me and I will never forget this day.

“For sure, I wanted to be there when the baby came on Earth, but it was not so easy for me that she came on Friday night. So, I played on Saturday and went after the match to my girlfriend and the baby.”
