Jonathan Hogg is back in the fray after his cameo from the bench in the midweek FA Cup exit at Manchester City, with Wagner expected to bring back a host of ‘big hitters’ omitted from the starting line-up for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Wagner said: “We had two injuries after the game on Wednesday and the players we rested like (Chris) Schindler, Izzy Brown and Chris Lowe are all back in training.

“Sean Scannell was with the group for the first time (in training) yesterday, so at the minute we only have Kasey Palmer who is not in the training routine, even if we have some players like Sean and Harry Bunn who have to catch up with fitness and training and maybe some games at Under-21 level.

“Kasey is with Chelsea at the moment and hopefully he will be back during or after the international break.”

Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez says that top-scorer Dwight Gayle could be involved against Huddersfield tomorrow after making an earlier-than-expected recovery from injury.

The game is likely to see a record gate for a league game at the John Smith’s Stadium, with all home tickets sold out. Kick-off is AT 5.30pm.
