Video - Darren Ferguson hoping that Lady Luck finally smiles on Doncaster Rovers

DONCASTER ROVERS manager Darren Ferguson admits his side are desperate for a piece or two of overdue luck during their final five matches of the League One campaign - with the South Yorkshire outfit currently eight points adrift of safety with just five matches to go.

Relegation-haunted Rovers face a daunting home clash with in-form leaders Wigan on Saturday, with Ferguson conscious that his side may have to win their last five games to give themselves hope of survival - but he is not throwing the towel in either.

Ferguson said: “You always need a bit of luck; no matter what you do.

“We are not going to put it (our situation) down to luck, but we are due a bit, I feel.

“You have to make sure you work hard enough to get that wee bit of luck you might need and hopefully that can turn things.”

On his side’s parlous position, he added: “For everyone connected to the football club - the staff, players, fans and board - it’s a difficult time.

“We have to keep the belief and still believe we can manage to turn it around somehow.”
