Video: Latest Wembley trip for Barnsley just '˜another away game' for boss Heckingbottom

BARNSLEY head coach Paul Heckingbottom admits that he would have preferred it if tomorrow's Carabao Cup date against Tottenham Hotspur was at White Hart Lane instead of Wembley.

Heckingbottom will lead out a Barnsley side at the home of football for the third time in just over 17 months on Tuesday, with the Reds expected to be backed by around 3,000 visiting supporters.

But while much has been made of the latest trip to North London’s most famous stadium, Heckingbottom believes the occasion is less noteworthy than their appointments in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final and League One play-off final during the Spring of 2016.

Heckingbottom said: “It is only an away game and not a final. On the previous occasions, it was a final and you can’t replicate that.

“A final is a final and you have to win and it is a different feeling and that is the big difference.

“But the side is brand new and there are only Nick (Townsend), Adam (Hammill) and Adam (Davies) who have been there before. It is totally different now and an away game we will try and enjoy and one we are looking forward to.

Wembley is special, but for it to be (truly) special it has to be a final or an FA Cup semi (final) or something like that.”

On whether he would have preferred the game to be at White Hart Lane, Heckingbottom added: “Me personally, I would have. I have never been. But the boys want to play at Wembley.”
