Video - Luciano Becchio suffers setback on his road to recovery with Rotherham United

ROTHERHAM UNITED assistant-boss Kevin Blackwell says that Luciano Becchio remains some distance away from first-team contention - with the Argentine striker's path to fitness further hindered by a hamstring tweak.

Becchio has made just two substitute appearances since penning a deal at Rotherham for the rest of the season, with his last appearance coming in the 4-1 home loss to Charlton Athletic at the end of January.

Aside from the news regarding the striker, the Millers are in decent health ahead of Tuesday night’s home game with Middlesbrough, with the hosts seeking to secure a third successive Championship win for the first time since December 2003 after excellent victories over Sheffield Wednesday and Brentford.

Blackwell said: “Luciano has not played for a while and he came here and got injured and he’s trying to get fit.

“He had a hamstring (injury) and then a calf (injury). He did some heavy running in the past few weeks to try and get himself fit and he’s tweaked his hamstring and that’s exactly the sort of thing that happens when you get slightly deconditioned.

“At this stage this season, we are talking about quite a few (players) who are deconditioned as they haven’t played for some time. We are trying to get them reconditioned into hard training and playing.

“I think he’s still some way off, yes.”

On the health of the rest of the squad, Blackwell said: “Anybody who has got a bump or a bruise certainly hasn’t reported it, that’s for sure.

“Winning has that habit, doesn’t it and your injuries tend to melt away a little bit.

“Lloyd Doyley will hopefully start training again this week, but other than that, it will be the same squad.
